GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ

Four years of exalting the life and work of Gabriel García Márquez

Bogotá, April 17 (EFE).- Ten years ago, on April 17, 2014, Gabriel García Márquez, creator of the magical world of Macondo, died at the age of 87 in Mexico City, an anniversary that is the starting point of the program "From 10 to 100" with which Colombia will celebrate the different facets of the life and work of the Nobel Prize winner and which will connect with the centenary of his birth, on March 6, 2027.

STATEMENTS BY JAIME ABELLO, DIRECTOR OF THE GABO FOUNDATION: It is a work to start with the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the death of Gabriel García Márquez to start the preparations for a great centenary. This idea of the Foundation was received with great enthusiasm by the Ministry of Cultures, Arte y Saberes de Colombia and we created a framework agreement. There are some agreed activities, but above all it is called to make a more global, more international proposal, hand in hand with the CAF Development Bank of Latin America, which is also putting its shoulder to the wheel because we want a centennial of great transcendence.
