PORTUGAL DEMOCRACY

After 50 years of democracy, housing, corruption and salaries are main concerns of Portuguese people

Lisbon (Portugal), Apr 24 (EFE) - Housing, corruption, wages and healthcare are the main concerns of Portuguese people fifty years after the Carnation Revolution, which achieved its goals of democratising, decolonising and developing the country.

This Thursday, 25 April 2024, will be the epicentre of Portugal's half-century of democracy celebrations, where millions of people are expected to take to the streets across the country to celebrate the achievements of the 'captains'.

Pedro Costa, 40: "We feel a lot of problems. Wages in Portugal are unfortunately low and this is reflected in the difficulty people have in finding housing. But there are also some problems in the health sector".

Beatriz Caetano, 29: "I think it's just a celebration. I think that's all it is. It's an important day for the country, yes, but we can't focus on that for the big changes. The changes have to happen because of the government, they are completely independent of 25 April".

Luís Fernandes, 61: "For me, political parties are more an exchange of favours with each other. The exchange of favours is more for the family than to dedicate themselves to their function. As long as they are doing well, the others are landscape.
