MYANMAR CRISIS

Volunteers care for displaced Burmese on Thai side of the border with Myanmar

Phop Phra (Thailand), Feb 12 (EFE/EPA).- (Camera: Stringer) Volunteer health workers from Burma's opposition Civil Disobedience Movement provide medical treatment to displaced Burmese nationals at a camp on the Thai side of the border in Phop Phra district.

More than 150 Burmese nationals displaced by the war live in a grey area on the Thai side of the border.

Most of them come from Blato village, near Myawaddy town, Kayin State, after fleeing fighting between the Burmese army and armed resistance groups.

Since the military coup of 1 February 2021, Burma has been plunged into a deep political, social and economic crisis and has spiralled into violence with new civilian militias that have exacerbated the country's decades-long guerrilla war.
