FRANCE ATTACK

Vigil held after anti-Semitic attack in Rouen

Rouen (France), May 17 (EFE/EPA) - The burning of a synagogue in the city of Rouen, which ended Friday with its assailant killed by police gunfire, is considered the most serious anti-Semitic act in France since 7 October 2023, when Hamas attacks on Israel also polarised part of the country.

‘We are determined to protect French Jews so that they can practise their religion without fear,’ Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told reporters in Rouen (130 kilometres northwest of Paris), describing the attack as an ‘anti-Semitic act’.
