Vehicle smuggling, an evil that undermines Bolivian and Chilean economies

La Paz, Aug 17 (EFE) - Vehicle smuggling is a long-standing problem that affects the economies of Bolivia and neighboring Chile, the gateway for these vehicles that continue their way through illegal routes to Bolivian territory, some coming from overseas and others stolen in northern Chile.

Between January and July of this year, 1,687 undocumented vehicles were seized in Bolivia, most of them in the Andean region of Oruro (515) and in La Paz (494), affecting smuggling for the equivalent of some 35.5 million dollars, according to a detail provided to Efe by the National Customs.
