Vehicle congestion causes long delays at Spain’s Melilla border crossing point

Melilla, Spain, Jul 21 (EFE).- The land border between Spain and Morocco in Melilla experienced on Sunday one of its worst days since the start of Operation Crossing the Strait (OPE), with hundreds of families waiting more than nine hours to cross from the autonomous city to the neighbouring country.

According to police sources, the long wait was due to the accumulation of nearly 700 vehicles that disembarked in Melilla early in the morning from two different ships, to which were added another 150 vehicles from a third ship at around 13:30.

The situation has caused significant delays and frustration among travellers, highlighting the difficulties they face during the peak travel season in the region. (Camera: PAQUI SÁNCHEZ).
