Lima, Nov 21 (EFE).- In an era of polarization, rampant technology and the decline of the humanities, writer Irene Vallejo defends the power of the word as an antidote to heal societies. Her work 'El infinito en un junco' (Infinity in a reed) gathers book lovers in Peru and half the world, or as the author says, “lost causes”.Camera: Mikhail Huacan.STATEMENTS BY IRENE VALLEJO, WRITER:The action of reading is an adventure that continues to live on today. Evidently books and culture are always threatened, but for me it has been deeply encouraging to find that there are so many people involved and especially in Latin America I have met and have been able to meet many reading promoters who do an extraordinary job, taking books to neighborhoods, to areas of their countries that seemed socially excluded from this experience and who are even trying to heal social and personal scars of violence and historical conflicts through reading and writing workshops. And I believe that this is the demonstration that there is still a front of resistance and also an attempt to heal societies through the word.
