University staff protests for payment increase in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Jun 18 (EFE/EPA).- Thousands of non-academic staff members from country-wide state universities gathered on Tuesday in Colombo to demand increased pay and allowances to offset growing living costs.

The protest follows more than 40 days of strike action, during which the state university system was severely interrupted by their demands for better remuneration. (Camera: CHAMILA KARUNARATHNE).
