US unemployment rate tumbles to 4.2% as more people seek jobs

Gurnee, Dec 3 (EFE/EPA).- The US unemployment rate fell in November to 4.2 percent, the first time in nearly two years that it has fallen below the rate recorded at the start of the pandemic in March 2020, when it was 4.4 percent, although job creation figures continue to underwhelm.

Unemployment fell four-tenths of a percentage point from Oct., the US Department of Labor reported Friday and is inching closer to the 3.5 percent of February last year, before the pandemic of covid-19 brought the country's economic activity to a standstill.

However, job creation was lower than expected at 210,000 new jobs, compared to most analysts' forecasts of more than 500,000 jobs. (Camera: TANNEN MAURY).
