Turkey suspends all trade with Israel

Istanbul (Turkey), May 3 (EFE/EPA) - Turkey has "closed the door" on trade with Israel, an exchange worth 9.5 billion dollars, because of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "cruelty" in the Gaza war, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday.

He confirmed the decision, announced last night by the Turkish Trade Ministry, to suspend all export and import activity with Israel until an uninterrupted and sufficient flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza is allowed.

Erdogan recalled that only weeks before the Hamas attacks of 7 October, which were followed by Israel's ongoing punitive offensive in Gaza, he had met in the US with Netanyahu "to show that Turkey and Israel could take several steps" in their bilateral relationship, fully restored in 2022 after years of tensions.

The Hamas-controlled health ministry reported on Friday that 34,622 people have been killed in the offensive.
