Tributes to Spanish Nazi victims in Mauthausen

Mauthausen (Austria), May 5 (EFE/EPA) - The Spanish government paid tribute on Sunday to the Spanish anti-fascist republicans who were imprisoned, tortured and murdered in the Nazi camp of Mauthausen, and accused the PP and Vox of manipulating history with the so-called "laws of concord" promoted in three communities where they govern together.

"I come to pay tribute to those murdered here and to those who suffered the atrocity of these camps," said the Minister for Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy (Sumar) during the acts of homage in the so-called 'camp of the Spaniards', for the estimated 7,500 Republicans who were part of the more than 200,000 people who were tortured or killed here.

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE), for his part, called during his speech for the slogan "never again" to be repeated, and warned that "there are movements that seek to regress and return to the worst of the recent history of our country and of our Europe".

The two ministers took part together in the floral tributes in front of the monument to the Spanish Republicans, organised by the Amical de Mauthausen, which was flanked by a flag of the Republic and the constitutional flag of Spain.
