NAIROBI ANNIVERSARY

A train station, origin of vibrant Nairobi

Nairobi (Kenya), Sep 3 (EFE) - Nairobi was born in 1899 as a humble stop on the railroad built by the British Empire between the coastal city of Mombasa (Kenya) and Uganda, but 125 years later stands out as a vibrant metropolis and a strategic capital in Africa.

"It is not only the nerve center of East Africa, but also of the continent. Kenya and its capital are at the head of Africa," Kenyan historian Charles Okumu tells EFE about this city of some five million inhabitants.
