MEXICO TRADITION

Traditional Huapango dance contest held in central Mexico

San Joaquín, Apr 2 (EFE).- Hundreds of Huapango dancers seek to keep this traditional dance from the Mexican region of the Huastecas alive through a national contest that has been held from Thursday to Sunday in the town from San Joaquín, Querétaro state, central Mexico.

Inspired by flamenco, the huapango is one of the most deeply rooted traditional Mexican dances among millions of people in the Huasteca region, made up of areas of seven states, who, to the rhythm of violins, guitars and jaranas, have made this practice part of their life and its history.
