Thousands of Muslims return home in Indonesia after Eid al-Fitr celebrations

Banda Aceh (Indonesia), Apr 13 (EFE/EPA) Hundreds of passengers disembarked from a ferry in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, on Saturday during the mass return from their hometowns after Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The Ministry of Transport expects the return flow to peak on Sunday, 14 April, with an estimated 40.99 million people expected to move.

Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a two- or three-day holiday at the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan. It is one of the two main Islamic holidays.

During Eid al-Fitr, most people travel to visit each other in or out of town and children are given new clothes and spending money for the occasion.
