Thailand's convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra visits Bangkok City Pillar Shrine

Bangkok, Mar 14 (EFE/EPA).- Convicted former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was accompanied by his youngest daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Thursday to worship the city's pillar at Bangkok City Pillar Shrine .

Thailand's convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, age 74, has been released on parole and on probation at home until August is to be permitted by the Department of Probation to make a short-trip to pay respect to his dead relatives and visit his hometown in Chiang Mai northern province which was his first visit in 17 years.

Thaksin is released on parole from the Police General Hospital where he had been detained six-months of his one-year jail sentence and did not stay a single night behind the bars for corruption and power abuse due to multiple illness after returned to Thailand in August 2023 from living in self-imposed exile following his overthrowing by a military coup on September 19, 2006.
