Thailand seeks balance between tourism boom, environmental sustainability

Phi Phi Islands, Mar 12 (EFE).- In Thailand, the nation faces the challenge of finding a balance between economic development and sustainable tourism, a situation highlighted by the idyllic beaches of Phi Phi Don.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism contributed significantly to Thailand's GDP, as the country's natural beauty attracted a massive influx of tourists.

However, the economic impact of the pandemic led the authorities to implement measures aimed at boosting tourism, potentially threatening iconic ecosystems such as Maya Bay on Phi Phi, known for its once pristine conditions and the cinematic fame of "The Beach". (Camera: NAYARA BATSCHKE).
