THAILAND US PROTESTS

Thai royalists condemn US interference in domestic politics

Bangkok, May 24 (EFE/EPA).- A group of Thai royalist demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. embassy in Bangkok on Wednesday, calling for the United States to cease its interference in Thailand's internal affairs.

The protest comes amid increasing accusations that the U.S. is encouraging anti-government street protests, which are calling for reforms to the monarchy, and alleged manipulation to install a government led by a political party intent on overthrowing the monarchy.

The US Ambassador to Thailand, Robert F. Godec, received a letter from the royalist group during the demonstration. The content of the letter has not been made public, but it is believed to be an official plea for the U.S. to respect Thailand's domestic affairs.

The royalist-led demonstration is emblematic of the political tension in Thailand, with growing divisions between pro-monarchy forces and a rising tide of pro-democracy demonstrators seeking reforms. (Camera: RUNGROJ YONGRIT).
