Houtong, May 15 (EFE).- Houtong, a mountainous town in northern Taiwan, has turned from a mining town into a cat lover's paradise. Once bustling with miners, the town now attracts visitors with its population of a couple hundred stray cats, who share the space with restaurants, cafes and shops dedicated to the felines.Houtong's renaissance began in 2008, when a Taiwanese photographer documented local efforts to care for stray cats. Visitors are greeted by friendly cats and a community dedicated to their welfare, including a volunteer service that promotes neutering and adoption. (Camera: JAVIER CASTRO BUGARÍN).
