US strengthens Ecuador's border security with donation of mobile barracks

Quito, Feb 8 (EFE).- The United States Government announced on Thursday the donation of a sophisticated mobile barracks to the National Police of Ecuador for surveillance of the border with Colombia as part of a security cooperation and crime fighting effort.

The announcement was made during a special ceremony at the headquarters of the Police Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR) in northern Quito, attended by Deputy Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Todd D. Robinson.

Furthermore, U.S. authorities also revealed the donation of five virtual shooting ranges to a special unit of the Ecuadorian Police and announced funding of 2.6 million dollars to extend a crime prevention project in coastal cities and in the Andean city of Quito for another two years.
