Spain's Zamarramala keeps centuries-old tribute to women's strength alive

Zamarramala, Feb 11 (EFE).- In the historic Segovian neighbourhood of Zamarramala, women were once again the stars of the annual celebration of Las Águedas, a tribute to female strength and determination that dates back to 1227.

This festival, in honour of Santa Águeda and recognised as being of National Tourist Interest, has maintained its roots with the women dressed in traditional dress, including the iconic red cape and the characteristic montera on their heads, complemented by jewellery symbolising their power and uniqueness.

While men have played a secondary role in the festivities, filmmaker David Pinillos was awarded the Matahombres de Oro badge, a gesture that highlights the recognition of those who promote gender equality in all areas of society. (Camera: PABLO MARTÍN).
