Spain project links soil conservation with water quality improvement

Urdaibai, Spain, May 9 (EFE).- A research team in Spain’s Basque Country working to improve the quality of water from streams and springs used for human consumption has secured the involvement of local councils in protecting land surrounding water catchment areas from aggressive forestry practices.

The collaboration has been achieved through the European-funded Life Urbaso project, coordinated by the Basque agricultural research institute Neiker, with participation from the University of the Basque Country, climate research center BC3, the Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium and EFE.
