Spain is in charge of protecting the Baltic skies from Lithuania

Siauliai (Lithuania), Jun 22 (EFE), (Camera: Julio Galvez).- Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined NATO in 2004 and, since that year, the Alliance has supervised and protected the skies of these countries through the mission Air Police in the Baltic, whose command Spain assumed on April 1 for a period of four months.

Aerial surveillance in the Baltic republics implies the continuous presence, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, of Alliance fighter planes and crews prepared to react if there is any interference in the skies of those countries, neighbors of Russia.
