US spacecraft lands on moon for first time in over 50 years

Cape Canaveral, Feb 22 (EFE).- A US spacecraft has landed on the Moon for the first time in more than half a century, a major achievement since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

The event also marks a milestone as the first spacecraft built by a private company, Intuitive Machines, reaches the lunar surface.

After travelling more than a million kilometres, the Odysseus landed successfully at 17:23 US Central Standard Time (23:24 GMT) on the rim of the Malapert A crater, about 300 kilometres from the lunar South Pole, after a couple of adjustments to its arrival time. (Camera: HANDOUT).
