Salvadoran community leaders, ex-guerrillas to remain in prison

San Salvador, Jan 19 (EFE).- Six community leaders and former guerrillas arrested in El Salvador accused of murdering a woman in 1989, during the internal armed conflict (1980-1992), will remain in provisional detention after facing the initial hearing of a criminal trial against them on Thursday.

The criminal case passed to the pre-trial phase and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) has six months to continue with the investigation, a period that can be extended "if the Prosecutor General's Office so requests," according to defence lawyer Dennis Muñoz, who said this Thursday evening.
