Russian Central Bank starts working with a new digital rouble

Moscow (Russia), Aug 15 (EFE/EPA) - (Camera: Sergei Ilnitsky) Russia's Central Bank will start testing real digital roubles on 15 August 2023.

In the first stage, customers will be able to open accounts, make transfers and pay for goods and services.

The law on the introduction in Russia of the third form of the national currency (the digital rouble in addition to cash and non-cash roubles) came into force on 1 August 2023.

The digital rouble is a digital code that is not stored in commercial banks, but in a special digital wallet on the Central Bank's servers.
