ITALY ART

Rome hosts an exhibition with works by El Greco that had never left Spain

Rome (Italy), Sep 6 (EFE).- Three works by the painter Doménikos Theotokópoulos, known as El Greco, and who had never left Spain, will be exhibited in the Basilica of Sant'Agnese in Agone located in Piazza Navona, Rome, and are the first cultural event of the Jubilee to be celebrated in 2025, the Catholic event that is organized every 25 years and in which millions of pilgrims are expected to visit the Italian capital and the Vatican.

Statements by Bishop Rino Fisichella, organizer and coordinator of the Jubilee events: "I hope that those who come to visit these works of art are above all prepared for the silence of contemplation and can see how a man touched by God lives the experience of faith, putting it at the service of all humanity through his artistic work. It is certainly a synthesis between what is East and West. Here we have that verticalism as the experts call it. Verticalism means aiming high, aiming for transcendence, aiming to move our gaze, always too often chained to the ground, towards the sky. The Jubilee is above all an experience of faith, but the Jubilee is also culture, the Jubilee wants to be culture and we want today's tourist, once in Rome, to also become a pilgrim. And, therefore, admiring the beauty that is granted to us, may it also become a pilgrim of faith and herald of hope, as the Jubilee of 2025 wants to be".
