Real Madrid coach: People thought Madrid was dead, but we are in the semifinals

Sports Desk, Apr 18 (EFE).- Andriy Lunin saved two penalties in the tiebreaker as Real Madrid ended Manchester City’s title defense in the UEFA Champions League to move to the semifinals with a nerve-wracking win on Wednesday.

The two teams could not be separated after a grueling contest of 210 minutes in two legs, leading the match to a tiebreak, in which Madrid prevailed 4-3 courtesy of Lunin’s saves of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic shots.

Luka Modric also missed his shot for Madrid, but it did affect the result as Antonio Rudiger converted the decisive penalty to silence the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, taking the visitors to the semifinals for the fourth time in a row.

SOUNDBITES OF REAL MADRID COACH CARLO ANCELOTTI ON WEDNESDAY:

"It is a very important classification. (The day) after tomorrow we will come back (to work) in a relaxed way to prepare Sunday's clash, which is key for La Liga. This is a special competition for us. Real Madrid can do things in this competition that nobody believes the team could do.Everyone thought that Real Madrid was dead in this round but we will continue."
