Queen Sofia attends event on Spanish Juan Sebastian de Elcano ship in Miami

Miami, May 19 (EFE).- (Camera: Antoni Belchi).- Ferdinand Magellan's and Juan Sebastián de Elcano's expedition in 1519, which marked the first circumnavigation of the globe, marked the awakening of "planetary consciousness" and was "almost a crazy adventure," several American historians said Wednesday in Miami on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the first travel around the world.

To commemorate this event, various activities are being held in Miami these days, including a roundtable dubbed "The first globalization: The journey that shaped the world", an event attended by Queen Sofía and organized by the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute of New York.
