Public pensioners ask for an increase in their pensions in Sri Lanka

Colombo (Sri Lanka), Apr 22 (EFE/EPA).- Sri Lankan public pensioners gathered this Monday in front of the Ministry of Public Administration in Colombo to ask the government to increase the monthly pension.

They urge the government to increase the monthly pension and include the cost-of-living supplements approved in the 2024 budget. They also urge to resolve pension disparities.

According to data from the Pension Department, the country will have about 709,232 pensioners at the end of March 2024. Pensions are paid to state employees after decades of service to the public.
