Protesters harass Rohingya refugees sheltered in Indonesia's Aceh province

Jakarta (Indonesia), Dec 27 (EFE).- (Camera: Hotli Simanjuntak) The recent wave of boatloads of Rohingya, a Muslim-majority ethnic group persecuted in Burma (Myanmar), arriving in northern Indonesia is creating tensions with local communities after more than 1,000 Rohingya arrived in Aceh in November alone, according to UN figures.

Earlier this month, Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed his suspicions that the recent Rohingya migration crisis is due to human trafficking gangs and indicated that his country will act against those guilty of human trafficking, while providing humanitarian assistance to the refugees.
