Protest in Chiapas calls for justice for jailed indigenous activists in Mexico

Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mar 5 (EFE).- Activists rallied outside the judiciary in Chiapas, southeastern Mexico, to demand the release of a Zapatista leader and five indigenous Tzeltal activists, claiming their imprisonment is unjust.

Dora Lilia Roblero, director of the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Centre (Frayba), highlighted the efforts made to prove their innocence and the lack of response to their complaints.

Activists have criticised the criminalisation of human rights and land defenders in southern Mexico, pointing to procedural flaws and fabricated charges against the detainees. (Camera: MITZI FUENTES).
