President William Lai reaffirms Taiwan's sovereignty | Video

Taipei, May 22 (EFE).- Taiwan's defense of its sovereignty and China's push for 'national reunification' raised a critical question on Wednesday on how can both sides coexist to avoid a devastating war?

The positions are clear: the new Taiwanese president, William Lai, reaffirmed Taiwan's sovereignty and offered to 'dialogue' with Beijing on terms of 'equality' and 'dignity,' aiming to benefit both.

The Chinese authorities, for their part, have not moved an inch from their original stance, considering the '1992 Consensus' and the 'one China principle' as the basis for talks with Taipei and maintaining that the two territories belong to 'one country.' (Camera: JAVIER CASTRO BUGARÍN).
