This visit comes in the wake of Admiral Samuel J. Paparo's recommendation at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on February 1. Nominated to lead the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Paparo advised Taiwan to further strengthen its asymmetric warfare capabilities to safeguard against possible aggression from China. The emphasis on asymmetric warfare underscores the strategic approach Taiwan is adopting in bolstering its defence mechanisms against a significantly larger adversary.
