Moscow (Russia), October 25 (EFE).- The portrait of Maria Butina is projected, on the occasion of the anniversary of her liberation, with the inscription "Russians do not surrender" on the facade of the American embassy building in Moscow.Butina was arrested in Washington in July 2018, on the eve of a meeting between the American and Russian presidents, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, in Helsinki, accused of working as a "foreign agent" in the United States without being registered. On December 13, 2018, as part of a plea agreement, Butina admitted in a US court her guilt for participating in a conspiracy against the United States, and also said that she acted at the direction of a Russian official. On April 26, 2019, she was sentenced in the United States to 18 months in prison. After serving part of her sentence and being deported, Butina returned to Russia on October 26, 2019.
