Pope Francis recalls his life in the book 'Life: My Story Through History"

Vatican City, March 19 (EFE).- (Camera: Miguel Salvatierra) Pope Francis delves into his memories "throughout History" in his autobiography, from the Second World War to his election as pontiff in 2013 or the Covid-19 pandemic, passing through the military dictatorship in Argentina.

"Maybe I didn't do enough for her," he says of his former laboratory boss, Esther, whom the military regime tortured and murdered by throwing her from a plane, something Francisco still laments about in "Life: My Story through History" (Harper Collins, 2024).

"I think that the Pope surely wants to address the youngest, so that they do not make the mistakes of the past when it comes to war. And he actually sends very strong messages on the topic of human brotherhood. He has also written an encyclical called 'Fratelli tutti'. Then, the topic of peace. He is very attentive to this topic, even in almost every chapter there is a small reference to peace, brotherhood and friendship. So these are the main messages, then also the dialogue between religions and respect for the environment."

"I have found strong precision and incredible memory. And I understood it because in one chapter he says that, as a child, he was taught memory techniques that are still useful to him today. In fact I found that he also remembered small details that one might forget."

"A happy moment for him was when Argentina won the World Cup in 1986. And he perfectly remembered a Japanese classmate who wrote 'long live Argentina' on the blackboard and that the teacher told him to erase it, because they were in a school with a very precise label and those things could not be done. And I saw that he was very happy with that. He was sad when he remembered the pandemic and his time in Córdoba, but with great serenity. It was a difficult period, but he was very calm."
