Pope Francis calls for resumption of ceasefire talks and release of hostages

Vatican City, Dec 13 (EFE) - (Camera: Antonello Nusca) Pope Francis on Wednesday called for an immediate ceasefire and for all parties involved in the conflict in the Gaza Strip to resume negotiations, as well as the immediate release of all hostages held by the Islamist group Hamas.

The Pope launched a new appeal for peace as he explained that he follows "with great concern and pain the conflict in Israel and Palestine", at the end of a general audience in the Vatican's Paul VI Hall.

Translations:

1. "I follow with great concern and pain the conflict in Israel and Palestine. I renew my appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Much suffering is taking place there. I encourage all parties involved to resume negotiations and call on all to make an urgent commitment to get humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza who are stretched to the limit and in real need. All the hostages who had seen hope in the truce a few days ago must be released immediately and this great suffering for Israelis and Palestinians must end. Please, no to weapons, yes to peace".

2. "We do not forget for the gift of peace for the peoples suffering from war, especially for Israel, Palestine and the martyred Ukraine. My blessing to all.
