POPE FRANCIS FOOD

The Pope calls for a better relationship with food

Vatican City, January 10 (EFE).- Pope Francis asked this Wednesday for a better relationship with food, given the "many imbalances and pathologies" because people "eat too much, or too little," during the general audience held in the Paul VI classroom from the Vatican.

TRANSLATION:

1. Food is the manifestation of something inside: the predisposition to balance or to excess; the capacity to give thanks or the arrogant pretension of autonomy; the empathy of those who know how to share food with those in need, or the selfishness of those who accumulate it all for themselves.

2. Tell me how you eat, and I will tell you what soul you possess.

3.From a social point of view, gluttony is perhaps the most dangerous vice that is destroying the planet.

4.Because the sin of those who give in to a piece of cake, after all, does not cause great harm, but the voracity with which we have been unleashed, for some centuries, towards the goods of the planet, is compromising the future of all. We have rushed, above all, to make ourselves masters of everything, when everything had been consigned to our custody.

5.And instead the danger is that of becoming predators, and we are now realizing that this form of gluttony does great harm to the world.

6.We eat too much, or too little, and often eat in solitude. Eating disorders are spreading: anorexia, bulimia, obesity. And medicine and psychology try to tackle the bad relationship with food, a bad relationship with food that produces all these diseases, all of them. These are diseases, often very painful, related above all to torments of the psyche and the soul.
