VENEZUELA GUAIDÓ

Political changes in Latin America further diminish the figure of Guaidó.

Caracas, Jun 29 (EFE), (Camera: Jackdwin Sáez / Archive)- With the victory of leftist Gustavo Petro in Colombia's presidential elections, Venezuela's opposition candidate Juan Guaidó - proclaimed interim president in 2019 - loses another of his mainstays and continues to lose support, since, as of Aug. 7, the Andean country's current president, Iván Duque, will have to cede his seat to the elected president.

Guaidó has been clinging, for more than three years, to the presidential interim, thanks to the support of countries such as the United States, Argentina, Chile or Peru, which has been varying as a change of mandate took place in those nations. Of these, only the US Government maintains its support.

STATEMENTS BY PABLO ANDRES QUINTERO POLITOLOGO, FERNANDO SPERITTO POLITOLOGO: "The opposition has a great difficulty and that is that part of its strategy led it to rely heavily on embassies, consulates, international governments and international allies and we know perfectly well that what happens in Venezuela, or the results to be seen in Venezuela cannot be tied to foreign political decisions, the only way in which the opposition can take advantage of the 2024 elections is by changing the underlying strategy, because the geopolitics of the region is changing more and more every day, just like in Europe, the opposition has to change that, and the most important thing is not to depend solely and exclusively on the decisions made in an embassy abroad".
