La Plata, Colombia, Mar 14 (EFE).- The quiet Afro-Colombian community of La Plata, situated along the Pacific coast in the Valle del Cauca department, received an unexpected and unwelcome visit a few weeks ago. An armed group descended upon the settlement, harassing the residents, who have since grown concerned for their unique governance model and conservation initiatives that now seem vulnerable in the aftermath of the intrusion."We have faced pressure from external actors disrupting public order in our territory. Yet, in this process of social and civil community resistance, we have continued to withstand the influence of outlawed armed groups and maintain our conservation efforts," Santiago Valencia, a community leader of the Afro-descendant council of La Plata, told EFE.
