CHILE ENVIRONMENT

La Pintana went from being one of Chile's poorest neighborhoods to a national example of recycling.-

Santiago de Chile, Jul 13 (EFE) - It is one of the poorest and most troubled neighborhoods in Chile, but that has not prevented La Pintana, on the southern outskirts of Santiago, from becoming a benchmark for organic recycling in a country that only recycles 0.8% of the waste it generates.

Several trucks travel the streets of this commune of almost 200,000 residents every morning in search of their organic waste, which they have previously separated at home and which represents more than 50 % of all the garbage generated.
