Philippines passes new laws to defend maritime territory

Manila, Nov 8 (EFE/EPA).- The Philippines passed two new maritime laws on Friday aimed at asserting its sovereignty in the South China Sea, challenging Beijing's expansionist aspirations in the region.

The Maritime Zones Act and the Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act will help establish maritime jurisdiction and protect Filipino fishermen, while conforming to international maritime conventions. (Camera: ROLEX DELA PENA).
