COLOMBIA PETRO

Petro assures that a coup d'état is being prepared against him and appeals to the popular support.

Bogotá, May 1 (EFE).- The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, insisted this Wednesday that his opponents seek to remove him from power through a coup d'état and assured that if that happens the people will take to the streets to defend democracy.

STATEMENTS BY THE PRESIDENT OF COLOMBIA, GUSTAVO PETRO: If they are going to attempt a coup, they will face the people in the streets. I want to be clear, I want this message to be spread: whether I am here or not, if they attempt a coup against the will of the people, as they did on April 19, 1970, the people and the streets will recover democracy and the will of the people.
