Peruvian textile companies look to increase exports to US market

New York, Sep 24 (EFE).- Peruvian textile companies have participated in a New York trade fair to increase their presence in the United States, in particular clothing and accessories for designers with their own brands.

Six companies - who have made clothes for exclusive brands in the U.S. for decades - received a visit from Peru's new Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Úrsula León, who supported them at the Sourcing at Magic New York fair to expand in this competitive industry.

According to León, the goal is to win contracts at the fair of at least one million dollars for garment manufacturing and export, while continuing to grow by participating at different fairs.

"At this moment they are sorting and producing for other companies with Peruvian materials and not only innovating in the Peruvian material, which is of the highest quality. We are talking about a Peruvian cotton that is combined with alpaca fibers and that really gives us a wonderful result and that is showcased to the world so that all foreign buyers can enjoy this quality."

"They come from Peruvian companies that not only work with high quality materials, but with materials that are sustainable. These are companies with sustainability and environmental sustainability certifications. Also it has to do with the treatment of the staff that works there. Many of them are associated with craftspeople, with weavers and craftspeople from our Peruvian highlands, who work doing the embroidery on the designs."

"This is a sector that generates a lot of employment in the country and the idea is to continue supporting them. These types of spaces allow us to promote companies and what we are looking for is to support more and more entrepreneurs who are committed to exports."

"It is not easy to promote a brand, let's say in this case Peruvian, in a country like the United States. But our materials and the type of production that is done well is worth taking the risk on and betting on that investment."
