Perpignan photojournalism festival reaffirms its recognition of Gazan Loay Ayyoub

Paris (France), Sep 8 (EFE).- Visa pour l'Image, the leading photojournalism festival, justifies its decision to award the Perpignan Visa d'Or prize to Gazan Loay Ayyoub for his coverage of the war in the Strip in the face of criticism from the city's far-right mayor, Louis Aliot.

Aliot criticized this award during the inauguration of the thirty-sixth edition of the contest on August 31, noting that Ayyoub had described Hamas as a “Palestinian resistance” movement, when for the mayor there is no doubt that it is a terrorist group.

Jean-François Leroy, director of the Visa pour l'Image photojournalism festival:

"We have commitments. Yes, we take sides, yes, like all newspapers and like all journalists. But it is a question of sensitivity, it is not a question of being contestants, no, but committed activists, yes.

I am not on those juries, the juries are the photo editors of the international newspapers, it is their choice, not mine, so I respect the choice of the juries. I have always respected the choice of my jurors, whether I agree with them or not. Sometimes I don't agree with my jurors, but I always respect their choice".
