Pasteur Institute expands research to Brazil with a centre in Sao Paulo

Paris (France), Mar 31 (EFE) - (Camera: Antonio Torres del Cerro) Brazil, one of the countries with the highest mortality and covid infections, will open this year a research centre attached to the Pasteur Institute in Sao Paulo under an agreement signed on Friday in Paris, which was attended by the governor of Sao Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas.

The general director of the Pasteur, Stewart Cole, and the rector of the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, signed the statutes of the new Pasteur, the second that this world reference medical research centre has opened in Latin America, after the one in Montevideo.

"With this institute we are becoming more resilient, we are taking a firm step in favour of science. The responses (to a possible new pandemic) will be faster and Brazil will be increasingly integrated into this international research network," De Freitas told journalists at the end of the ceremony.

"With total certainty, this institute makes us more resilient, we are taking a firm step in favour of science. The responses (to a possible new pandemic) will be faster and Brazil will be increasingly integrated in this international network of research, of rapid response, for sure, if there is a new need, we will need science again and Brazil will be more immersed, more connected, in this universe of rapid responses, and for sure more prepared".
