Parisians protest against police violence

Paris (France), Sep 23 (EFE) - (Camera: Edgar Sapiña) "Trust between the people and the police has been broken, the force must be reformed from end to end," warned thousands of participants in a protest in Paris on Saturday against police violence and racism, which was joined by left-wing parties, NGOs and even the magistrates' union.

The demonstration, which left the Gare du Nord railway station in the direction of Place de Clichy, also paid tribute to Nahel, the teenager of North African origin shot at the end of June during a police checkpoint by an officer and whose death unleashed an intense wave of violence in France.

1. I'm thinking in particular of the rapporteurs of the Ombudsman's [Human] Rights reports who showed that when you were a young person perceived as black or Arab, you were 20 times more likely to be unemployed than the average person.

2. We call for the repeal of the 2017 Cazeneuve law which, I remind you, has led to 17 deaths in a year and a half in France at the hands of police shootings, when in Germany there has only been one death in 10 years, for refusing to obey. Yes, at the moment, we are the guardians of the Republic. When we say that we cannot go on with a police force that has created such a gulf with the population that the bond of trust is completely broken.
