Paris Olympics Organising Committee presents medals to be awarded at competitions

Paris (France), Feb 8 (EFE/EPA).- (Camera: Teresa Suarez) The medals for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will carry an 18-gram fragment of the original 1889 Eiffel Tower, organisers announced on Thursday.

"We had to find a symbol of the country and the capital, the Eiffel Tower. We couldn't be satisfied with just drawing it on the medal, we had to find the link," said Organising Committee president Tony Estanguet, the only Frenchman to have won three gold medals at three different Games.
