Brussels (Belgium), May 4 (EFE) - The institutions of the European Union are opening their doors this Saturday in Brussels and other cities with exhibitions and special tours to show the work carried out in the last five years of legislature and to mobilise voter participation in the run-up to the European elections in June. They do so to celebrate Europe Day, which commemorates the anniversary of the Schuman declaration of 9 May 1950, when 74 years ago, the then French Foreign Minister and future President of the European Parliament, Robert Schuman, proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) that paved the way for what would later become a political union and the European Union as we know it on Saturday.
