Modernization of Jeepneys in Philippines faces mixed reactions

Manila, May 23 (EFE/EPA).- Most evenings, Eduardo Abrasaldo, who drives a traditional jeepney in Manila, is accompanied on his route by his wife, Dina, and their two daughters, as the family tries to spend some quality time together while he works as many hours as possible to supplement his earnings.

The jeepney – the iconic minibus that is the Philippines’ most popular mode of public transport – has almost become a second home for the Abrasaldos, helping keep the family together even while Eduardo drives his nightly route. (Camera: FRANCIS MALASIG / ROLEX DELA PENA).
