CHILE MINING

Mining company forced to stop due to a 32-meter-diameter crater in Chile

Santiago de Chile, Aug 5 (EFE) .- Minera Candelaria, one of the companies dedicated to the exploitation of copper in northern Chile, interrupted its activities after the sudden appearance of a huge sinkhole 32 meters in diameter and 64 depth that threatens a populated area in the Tierra Amarilla region, in the Atacama desert.

The suspension of activity in the area occurs after the Chilean National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) launched an official investigation, which if malicious could include serious sanctions.
